My Very Own Star Bliss Salon & Spa

“Be Pampered Like a Star…”

Every once in a while, we all deserve to indulge and pamper ourselves so we can recharge our tired mind and body. I’ve always enjoyed pampering myself by going to spas. Just early this year my mom and I went to The Spa then out of nowhere we had a conversation about starting our own spa business. It was more on kwentuhan lang na parang nangangarap because It’s my dream talaga to have my own spa since I‘m a self confessed spa addict. I didn’t know that my mom was so serious regarding our conversation! Nagulat na lang ako meron na daw 2-storey space for rent siya na nakita, the location was very nice. It‘s in Timog Cor. Scout Torillo in Quezon City (in front of Off The Grill-Near Jade Valley) it’s near lots of restaurant so that it would be convenient for our customers to buy snacks in case they got hungry and also walking distance from condos, schools & other establishments and there are many parking lots available.

 * I’m planning to put up a branch near my condo in Mckinley, if anyone is interested to franchise just let me know.
The treatment rooms/beds has the warm and luxurious feel, enhanced further by ambient lighting and the sweet scent of aromatic essential oil in the 2nd floor for massage, scrubs & waxing services, while the 1st floor mainly caters foot spa, manicure, pedicure & Hair Spa services. (Will post the list of services soon).

* Pang billboard sa Edsa hehe!

Last year, I already set my mind that I’m going to resign this year, but while my spa is under construction, I overspend unexpectedly then decided to extend my flying career a “bit” more!

My Curls Are Back!

Published December 3, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

*After 9 hrs flight, more than 30hrs of being awake, no make-up at all, this is me around 1pm…

*….and this is me around 5pm, after 3cups of coffee, after 4hrs of sitting there.

Went to Tony & Jackey Salon in Tomas Morato Branch to have my 2nd digital perm. They charge P3000 pesos for korean hair products in any length of hair and P5000 for L’oreal. The difference is that you can use the korean products if you have healthy, virgin hair. For my hair they recommended L’oreal products because I’ve told them I had a digi-perm last May 2008.

Even if I’ve had 3 cups of coffee, I’m still so sleepy that time but I’m glad there is WiFi atleast there’s something for me to do. My All Time Skin and Beauty Secret!

Published September 9, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

I somehow avoid naming brands for a long time in this blog because I don’t want to associate this into advertisement page from where people are earning from their blog through their reviews, but thanks to demands of people asking for my skin care secret, I finally got inspired to write about it. I’ve been an avid user of Clinique’s 3-Step for 5 months now starting with:

Step 1: Cleanse-using Mild Liquid Facial Soap
This cleanser promises to clean the face lifting off all dirt and oil without drying skin out. It also preps skin for the exfoliation in Step 2.

Step 2: Exfoliate using Clarifying 2
they call this the ‘difference maker’ as it is chosen specifically for my skin type. It has exfoliating properties to shift dead skin cells from the face.

Step 3: Moisturize with Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
Described as a ‘moisture drink’ this light lotion hydrates and helps the skin maintain its moistures balance.

* Also got this travel sizes from duty free so that I can bring it to layovers.

My skin is actually low maintenance and white since birth, the explanation why it’s getting fairer and fairer is because I’m not an outdoor person. I don’t have a regular dermatologist neither tried expensive treatments or magic creams, I’m not prone to breakouts but like an average person, I get pimple too! Sometimes I’ll go for a diamond peel but that’s rarely. With Clinique products my skin became smoother and blemish free with or without make up maybe because it’s allergy tested and fragrance-free, which avoid any harsh reaction to face. I have one complain though, large pores are visible up-close! But as the saying goes, nobody’s perfect!

Do things that make you happy, wake up with a smile, bring out the child in you go to the playground. Swing and slide with your siblings. Things like that will surely brings out the natural glow in you and don’t be ashamed to collect toys! Who would have thought that I’m still collecting Hello kitty stuff from all over the world! And my room is still surrounded by little mermaids and Hello Kitties!

Life is actually full of humour a small practical jokes that dont hurt anyone makes me laugh. Television does provide humor of course but for me real life humor is the best, often subtle, sometimes missed, but so valuable. Laugh literally lifts the spirits and helps you burn calories as well!

Genetics plays a role too. Here’s a fact!  I don’t remember seeing my mom with an acne breakout in my entire life! She also uses Clinique products eversince and just like me she doesn’t go to derm clinic but spas, people always mistaken her as my sister, at her age it’s really amazing that she don’t have fine lines or wrinkles! Her hand is even more smoother than my hand!

Lifestyle factors also contributes because I don’t smoke, I don’t drink and I don’t expose myself to harmful rays of the sun (I always have umbrella! and sunglasses with me) I exercise not regulary but whenever time permits – in the hotel’s gym or simply use their spa ameneties or have a soothing massage. While at home night swimming is my exercise followed by jacuzzi or my portable steambath then relax on one of the lazy boy massage chairs in our house.

Have a puppy! Having a dog makes you happy because loving someone steadily makes you happy. It’s easy to love a dog – because of how cute a puppy is, but it is easy to love a dog for years because the dog loves you back, faithfully.  She shows excitement when you come home or when you get down on the floor to be near her.  A dog reminds you how good it feels to make someone else happy.  This will make you feel great!

Last but not the least, Trust God. God has set a proper time for everything. He is the controller of the universe, there will be mistakes and misunderstandings, but you can trust God to work out every problem. Instead of stressing over difficult circumstances, trust God to take care of everything.

All about Eye-Cream

Published August 3, 2008 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

I began using eye cream when I started working. It’s been an important part of my skincare regime because I have sleeping disorder (I’m awake the whole night & sleeping during the day!) The eye area seems like the first area that aging can be seen obviously. If you’re a fan of moisturizers to keep your face supple & on a youthful glow include eye cream in your skincare regimen.

Clinique all about eyesOlay eye Cream

If I’m in a layover I’m using Clinique’s All about eyes rich, it’s in my vanity bag which I don’t remove in my suitcase that’s why. If I’m home I’m using Olay Eye Total effects. It has a good description in the label that says it gives a radiant glow and fights the 7 signs of aging all around the eye area. The Result is very minimal to me. I still have dark under eyes. So I tried other eye moisturizer along with Olay I’m also using Lancome D-Contraxol eye serum & Sometimes Lancome Renergie Eye Microlift. Whenever I feel like I also put St. Ives Eye & Face stress gel.

(Sa dami ng nilalagay ko sa eyes ko sana naman effective ang results… hehehehe)

Digital Perm @ Tony & Jackey

Published August 2, 2008 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva
Tony & Jackey salon uses high quality Korean products and equipment – this is an all-Korean salon, as all their hair care products, hair color, and stylists are all Korean. They have Filipino assistants to help them shampoo and blowdry hair, but other than that, you will truly be beautified the Korean way.

They said the traditional perm in other salons will lasts for about three months, while digital perm will last for about six. My hair is naturally wavy and since there won’t be such a drastic difference in my hairstyle, I decided to give it a go. The whole process took 4 & half hours! I had a shampoo first then Sunny trimmed my hair for added layers so that the curls will fall more nicely. A pre-perming solution was applied to my hair, then a second solution was applied after 30-40 minutes.

To keep my curls shiny, I use Pantene all day curl mousse. I’m loyal to Pantene Hair Products. The product gives your hair definition & manageability. (I bought it for only $8) Use it in wet or damp hair. It’s not heavy, oily or sticky on the hair as if you didn’t put anything at all. I had my hair permed last May 2008 and until now august I still keep getting compliments about my new hair.

Health Problems Related to Diet

Published July 29, 2008 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

A Healthy Diet

At least six health problems have been proven to relate to diet. The first four problems occur in children as well as in adults. The last two occur primarily in adults.

  1. Iron deficiency anemia

This type of anemia usually occurs between 6 months and 2 years of age. The main symptoms are fatigue and delayed motor development. Iron deficiency anemia can also cause behavioral symptoms such as restlessness, irritability, and poor attention span.

  1. Overweight

Obesity is one of the most common nutritional problems in this country. Obesity is also one of the most important contributing factors in heart disease, hypertension, and some cancers.

  1. Tooth decay

Tooth decay is more likely if a child has a lot of sugar in his diet. (Poor toothbrushing habits also contribute to tooth decay.)

  1. Intestinal symptoms

Too little fiber in the diet can cause intestinal problems such as constipation, abdominal discomfort, appendicitis, gallstones, and some intestinal cancers.

  1. Coronary artery disease

A lot of animal fat (especially cholesterol) in the diet contributes to coronary artery disease. This disease hardly exists in poor countries where the population subsists on low-fat, high-carbohydrate diets. It is also less common among vegetarians.

  1. High blood pressure

High blood pressure has been associated with an increased amount of salt or a decreased amount of calcium in the diet of some susceptible persons. Most people, however, get rid of extra salt through their kidneys and don’t develop hypertension.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A HEALTHY DIET

  1. Learn the four basic food groups:
    • milk products: milk, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream
    • meat/eggs: red meats, poultry, fish, and eggs
    • grains: breads, cereals, rice, pasta, and so forth
    • fruits/vegetables; may be consumed as solids or juices.

Twenty percent of a healthy diet should consist of milk, meat and eggs, and 80 percent should be vegetables, fruits, and grains. (Fiber is found in grains, fruits, and vegetables.) This is similar to the recommendations that children receive 55 percent of their calories from carbohydrates, 30 percent from fats, and 15 percent from proteins.

  1. Eat three meals a day.

Breakfast is essential for children. Skipping breakfast can compromise performance at school. For dieters, skipping breakfast usually doesn’t lead to weight loss. All meals should contain fruits or vegetables, as well as grains. Meat or milk should be included in two of the meals.

Eating snacks is largely a habit. Snacks are unnecessary for good nutrition but harmless unless your child is overweight. If your child likes snacks (and most children do), encourage fruits, vegetables, and grains, but don’t give them close to mealtime.

  1. Decrease the amount of fat (meat and milk products) in the diet.

Americans eat excessive amounts of meat and dairy products. Although cholesterol is important for rapid growth, children over age 2 should consume it in moderation (not eliminate it).

To decrease the amount of fat in the diet, follow these guidelines:

    • Remember that one serving of meat per day is adequate for normal growth and development.(Don’t serve meat more than twice a day.)
    • Serve more fish and poultry and fewer red meats, since the latter have the highest cholesterol levels. Lean red meats are lean ground beef, pork loin, veal, and lamb.
    • Trim fat off meats and the skin from poultry.
    • Don’t serve bacon, sausages, spareribs, pastrami, and other meats that have a high fat content. Cut back on hot dogs, lunchmeats, and corned beef.
    • Limit the number of eggs to 3 or 4 per week. (Eggs have the highest cholesterol content of any of the commonly eaten foods. The cholesterol in one egg is equivalent to the cholesterol in 14 ounces of beef, 1-and-1/2 quarts of whole milk, or 1 quart of ice cream.)
    • Serve 2 percent milk instead of whole milk for children over 2 years of age.
    • Decrease the amount of milk your child drinks to 2 or 3 cups per day. (Encourage your child to drink water to satisfy thirst.)

On the other hand, some teenage girls may need to be reminded to consume adequate milk products (the equivalent of 3 glasses of milk) to lay down the bone mass required to prevent osteoporosis later in life.

    • Buy margarine instead of butter.
    • Keep in mind that red meat may be hard to give up because of the widespread misconception that red meat helps to build muscle mass and strength.
  1. Increase the amount of fruits, vegetables, and grains in the diet.

Follow these guidelines:

    • Children should consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. (Fifty percent of American children eat only one fruit or vegetable per day.)
    • Try to serve a fruit at every meal.
    • Offer fruits as dessert and snacks.
    • Start every day with a glass of fruit juice. (Caution: limit fruit juices to 2 cups per day to prevent diarrhea.)
    • Since fruits and vegetables are interchangeable, don’t force children to eat vegetables they don’t like.
    • When making casseroles, increase the amount of vegetables and decrease the amount of meat.
    • Serve more soups.
    • Encourage more cereals for breakfast.
    • Use more whole-grain bread in making sandwiches.
  1. Include an adequate amount of iron in the diet.

Throughout our lives we need adequate iron in our diets to prevent anemia. Everyone should know which foods are good sources of iron. Red meats, fish, and poultry are best. One serving per day of these foods will provide adequate iron. Although liver is a good source of iron, it contains 16 times more cholesterol than beef and should be avoided. For young children who refuse meats in general, use low-fat luncheon meats as a meat source. Adequate iron is also found in iron-enriched cereals, beans of all types, peanut butter, raisins, prune juice, sweet potatoes, spinach, and egg yolks. The iron in these foods is better absorbed if the meal also contains fruit juice or meat.

  1. Avoid excessive salt.

Salt is not usually harmful for people without high blood pressure. However, to discourage a taste for excessive salt in infants do not add it to their foods. Remove the salt shaker from the dinner table. Use other herbs and spices instead of salt. Purchase salty foods such as potato chips and pretzels sparingly.

  1. Avoid excessive pure sugars.

Sweets are not bad, but they should be eaten in moderation. Most humans are born with a “sweet tooth.” They seek out and enjoy candy, soft drinks, and desserts. The main side effect of eating candy is tooth decay if the teeth are not brushed afterward. Eating food with a lot of sugar (“a sugar binge”) can cause, 2 or 3 hours later, jitters, sweating, dizziness, sleepiness, and intense hunger. This temporary reaction is not harmful and can be relieved by eating some food. A love of sweets is not related to obesity (if the total calories per day are normal) or hyperactivity. A high amount of sugar in the diet has not been correlated with coronary artery disease or cancer.

  1. Know what to eat before exercise.

Eating meat does not improve athletic performance. The best foods to consume before prolonged exercise are complex carbohydrates. These include bread, pasta (noodles), potatoes, and rice. These should be consumed 3 to 4 hours before the athletic event so they have passed out of the stomach.

Water consumption continues to be important up to the time of participation and every 20 to 30 minutes during the activity.

My Long-Term easy to follow diet

Published July 23, 2008 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Not knowing the healthy benefits of it, I always like whole grain products such as bread, cereal, oatmeals & wheat bread eversince I remember. (Since I was in grade-school to be specific) I’m literally patronizing the high fiber diet  without me knowing it! I don’t even wanna call it a diet because it’s more of a routine for me. My grocery cart & suitcase on the way back to Doha (as shown in the picture) is usually filled up with oatmeal & granola bars – It’s my favorite anytime snack besides from chocolate. I ate a lot! I never deprive myself to eat whatever I want. If you deprive yourself you’ll just end up eating more. Another secret is that Eat-sleep-pattern is a big no-NO!!!

High fiber diet is "less strict" than many other diet plans. Just increase fiber consumption! Just focus on foods high in fiber so you should eat more whole grain foods such as cereals and bread. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also high in fiber, as well as being an excellent source of important vitamins and minerals. Fiber is important for the health of the digestive system and for lowering cholesterol. Foods containing fiber often are good sources of other essential nutrients. This diet +  some  yoga  stretchings = Flat  Abs!

My Favorite Chocolate Drink

Published July 22, 2008 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

One day, I’ve seen a commercial about a skinny woman tells you how wonderful it is to fit into her old clothes again. They show a picture of how she used to look, so you can compare it to her current body state. Then they will tell you how you can get the body etc.  I know I’m not fat but I’m not skinny either! Hehe! But I ate a lot! I crave sweets every hour of the day and I cannot resist it. So I’ve tried the slim-fast milk chocolate and really like it to help fulfill my chocolate cravings and it taste so good! I really like it!  Did it work? It work for me. I could drink one when I was reading my morning email and wouldn’t need to eat anything until lunch but during lunch I still eat. I never skip meal & I snack in between. I never deprive myself from eating because when you deprive yourself you’ll just end up craving more food!

Coppertone Ultraguard Sunscreen

Published July 21, 2008 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Protect yourself from the harmful UVA/ UVB rays that cause skin aging & burning, for sunblock I preferred to use lotion spray because it’s easier to apply. You’ll just spray it evenly to your existing moisturizer 20-30 mins. before sun exposure. I bought this for only $12 last June ’08 with the sun’s harmful effect it must be used daily but I only used it  occasionally or whenever I feel like! hehe! =)
