Journal of an H1N1 Patient

Published July 9, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

I want to share this information as a caution for all of you to be more aware of the pandemic.

I never imagine myself to be hospitalized and rushed by the hospital by an ambulance because I rarely get sick. Even If you surround me with people with cough or runny nose I will be the only person who won 19t be affected. Even if I took vitamins without food I won’t be acidic. Even if I ate different cuisines or try out many desserts my stomach won’t be upset nor sleep deprivation won’t stop my body from being well.

But when I got sick, it’s always controversial! The last time I’ve been hospitalized was during the midst of Dengue outbreak when I was in high school because of Dengue Fever. Also had Chicken Pox during summer of 2002, when I was 17 years old and about to enter college! It was horrible! Every time I look in the mirror I was crying because I look like a zombie!

And to date while H1N1 pandemic are still going on. I became a suspect patient and rushed to the hospital after 4 days of experiencing the symptoms.

My previous flights are Manila & New York from where we had a confirmed H1N1 case. I didn’t have any symptom by that time. I even flew to Milan on July 3-4 and I’m fine during the flight although I already have sore throat – Happy 4th of July! The following day, I had cough, body ache and slight fever but I thought I was just tired so I didn ‘t bother to go to the clinic, just stayed home and didn’t inform anyone.

Welfare office were calling me on July 6. To ask my condition because one of the crew I’ve flew with was already in the hospital and 2 crew from my accommodation are already in the hospital. I wasn’t  able to answer the phone it was on silent mode because I’m sleeping.

July 7 – Though I’m not feeling well I still attended Q’ways Magazine Meeting. The meetings starts at 8am till 2pm, since I’m already within the vicinity, I headed to QRMC (Qatar Airways Medical Center). After speaking to the doctor she then recommends that I should stayed in Hamad Medical Hotel for some tests. The place was nice. It’s like real hotel. It’s used to be Athletes Village where the athletes stayed during Asian games in Doha. We were provided unlimited sandwich and bread, Tea/Coffee in the lounge and 4 Meals a day. Only had one complain –  NO INTERNET CONNECTION!!!

* To everyone esp. those crew I’ve flown with and people I’ve encountered double your vitamin intake and if you suspect any flu symptoms go to hospital immediately. We are exposed to different nationalities from all over the world. We might as well take extra measures to prevent any sickness. Health is Wealth and Internet connection is an asset!

* Especial thanks to Jero for cheering me up by calling at least 8 times a day. Ate Camille for cooking for me and for being “on call-24/7” and Gandings courtesy of Rachel for coming over just to bring something much much much appreciated! And Rumana for dropping me off to my accommodation such a big help… Sometimes you’ll find a helping hand to people whom you least expected…

CENTRAL PARK (New York, USA)

Published June 28, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Central Park is one of those places that make New York such a great place to live. The huge park is located in the center of Manhattan. Its design is an example for city parks around the world.

Literally dozens of well known movie and TV scenes have been shot here including: Ransom, One Fine Day, Bullets over Broadway, Home Alone II, Serendipity, Made of Honor, Angels in America, Cruel Intention, 27 Dresses, Superman Returns, I am Legend, Autumn in New York, The Happenings, You’ve Got Mail, Maid in Manhattan, Sex and the City, Gossip Girl and more. For more info go to IMDB Central Park Filming Location.

Bow Bridge completed in 1862, is one of the most photographed and filmed locations in Central Park and it deserves every bit of its star reputation. The bridge also provides the perfect view from to watch the slowly moving row boats as they glide across the lake, or to photograph the skyline over Fifth Ave. as it rises from the leafy skirt of trees that edge it. It is one of the most popular, and best known, spots to meet and has hosted numberless romantic moments, both on and off the big screen.

The Mall  The 40foot wide Mall, flanked by its majestic rows of American Elms, provides the perfect place for a leisurely stroll in any season. One can easily imagine the scene a century ago, women with parasols and men in top hats perambulating towards the Concert Ground that stood adjacent to its northern end. Now you are more likely to find skateboards than waistcoats, but the effect is still the same and even the visitors on wheels are apt to slow down just a bit and admire the cathedral-like ambience.

The Loeb Boathouse, one of the most famous icons of Central Park is located at the northeastern tip of the Lake and houses the Boathouse Restaurant. It is a romantic setting for dinner on a mid-summer 19s evening, watching the sun sink behind the trees and maybe catching a venetian gondola.

Bethesda Fountain rises high above Bethesda Terrace looking over the hundreds of visitors that come every day to enjoy the view of the Lake and relax at the “heart” of the Central Park. Besides being a favorite destination of park visitors in search of a cool place to spend a summer afternoon.  Bethesda Fountain is also a celebrity in its own right. It has probably appeared in more movies than any other monument in the park, exuding a timeless romantic charm that makes it a perfect backdrop for cinematographers.

North Meadow Recreation Center is, at 23 acres, one of Central Park’s largest open areas. Ball fields first appeared there in the 1870s and it has been extensively refitted with carefully managed baseball diamonds which are in use throughout the spring and summer. Located just to the north of the reservoir the gently rolling landscape around it creates a slightly more secluded ambience. It also houses a state of the art fitness center, which includes basketball courts, handball courts and two climbing walls.

Strawberry Fields, On December 8th, 1980 John Lennon was shot dead at 72nd St. and Central Park West. Mr. Lennon had taken many walks with his wife and young son through the friendly confines of Central Park. On March 26, 1981 His widow, the artist and performer, later donated $1 million to the Central Park Conservancy to re-landscape and to maintain the 2.5-acre tear-drop-shaped parcel of park landscape. Strawberry Fields opened on October 9, 1985. Every October 9th since then has seen an all day vigil of people of all ages from around the world; fans of his music and believers in his vision.

My Condo Unit…

Published June 19, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

I finally found the condominium with a perfect location. It’s in posh area of McKinley Hill in The Fort Global City. It’s very accessible from all vital roads in Metropolis. It’s direct access to the Makati business district through McKinley road by passing through Forbes Park. Direct access to The Fort, Ortigas and Airport through C5 road and Edsa.

When people think of buying pamper gifts for themselves, they usually go to the mall to check out cellphones, clothes, gadgets or Make-ups. But not me, I went out and bought myself a condo unit. Not bad for 24 years old lass. It’s just that I view home ownership as a part of being a responsible adulthood.

My Mckinley Hills studio unit interior decorated by my mom..

Although, I still have my 2 existing bedrooms in my mom’s 2 houses in QC. I still want to pursue my dream of owning one. “iba kasi yung sense of fulfillment pag naisip kong sakin yun or pundar ko talaga yun” and I want to start buying home stuff in different countries then I’ll put it there.

I’m planning to stay at my condo whenever I feel like having my “Me Moments/ independence” or Every time may tantrums ako and I just want to be alone! Hehehe! Kidding aside, I just couldn’t resist the thought of wanting it, because it offers location of advantage, ease and convenience. The unit that I purchased is in front of Venetian Mall with Gondola ride in the impressive man-made Grand Canal. Parking will not be a problem.

It’s supposed to be zero down payment but I preferred to pay P500,000 downpayment to make the monthly mortgage low and the turnover lump sum on December 2012 will be less. I was about to get the unit on the 6th floor but then I’ve realized there isn’t much view on 6th floor so I chose 15th floor.

After 9 hours flight, when we reached our hotel yesterday (June 18′ 2009) where Qatar Airways crew stays. I began to write the details in my personal checks, but because I’m tired and sleepy. Some of the checks are just wasted because of date/year mistakes or my signature becomes Estretita instead of Estrellita! Hehe!

LOUVRE MUSEUM (Paris, France)

“Pictures are archives of our lives”

The Louvre Museum in Paris is the biggest and most visited art museum in the world. Its collection of approximately 35,000 pieces is exhibited over 60,000-square-meter floor area. Among the many famous collections in the museum are Venus de Milo and Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Louvre Museum, well-known museum from the movie The Vinci Code. Displays the famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and many other first class paintings from across Europe. Leonardo da Vinci used his finger to eraseoutlines and create an impression of fuzziness.

The Louvre is bathed in natural light that reduces the use of energy while providing a dramatic view of the sky and the outline.

Instead of a conventional building constructed above ground that might draw attention away from the original museum, the new underground complex remains low key while providing the necessary additional space required by the project. By building underground the land is also efficiently used by maintaining the open space above.

Leonardo da Vinci painted there the Mona Lisa between 1503 and 1506. The subtle smile of the Mona Lisa is world famous. Leonardo da Vinci died in 1519 in Amboise, one of the favorite towns of the king.

This huge canvas once adorned the refectory of the monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. Here, Veronese, acclaimed as a colorist and for painting vast, multifigured scenes, chose to depict Christ 19s first miracle, performed during the Marriage at Cana.

Maruja

.

Few Blocks away from our house in Casa Milan, I saw the house being used for the taping of Maruja. Also saw the location shoot of another TV show from ABS-CBN “Your Song”  in the clubhouse on the same day. The caretaker of the subdivision said Casa Milan are amongst the favorite location shoot of local movies, commercials & teleseryes and even asking us if we can add our house to their list for future location tapings.

If you were a fan of Supernatural or Ghost Whisperer, you would surely love the series – Maruja. It comes with simple special effects compared to other horror stories but those are enough to give you goose bumps. Besides, having grotesque effects would only turn it into a comedy. It is the story that will grip you. And of course the way the story is being told. There is so much mystery!

3 Manila Flight: I swapped my 4 days roster Munich-Germany and 2 days roster Milan-Italy while the 3rd one is pulled out from Standby! It’s my 1st time to be pulled out to operate Manila so I 19m so happy when they called unexpectedly! I had a nice time during the flight because of Filipina Mafia, around 9 hrs flying time is not that tiring – but for sure I gained weight because I can’t stop myself from habitual eating even if I’m not hungry! And everyone has food to share, from Najji 19s Pichi-Pichi & Puto, Tanj-  Adobo, Michelle, Chicken Tocino, Giony- Ensaymada, Clarissa – Cheddar Popcorn and my Cinabbon Roll we just ate, munch and laugh  whenever time  permits!

While in Manila, I just do my usual errands, church visit, grocery, massage, facial, manicure, bought another shith zu with Jero in Tiendesitas, dinner in Burgoo-Timog. And because he knows I felt bad for not being able to attend Levi’s Sale in Greenbelt, he just surprise me with one. The next day,  ate in Aristocrat-Roxas Blvd.

Then I went home, my family didn’t know I was coming. We celebrated my little sister’s pre-birthday at 10 in the evening, Gave my post Mother’s day gift and my belated birthday gift for my sister all at the same time. What a Cabin Crew life!

After trying my portable steam bath went to our new house in Casa Milan but the renovations are still going on and my mom are still busy enhancing the house’s security, completing the appliances, furniture and repainting the exterior and interior of the house so there’s no much pictures yet but a sneak peak!

Few Blocks away, I saw the house being used for the taping of Maruja (See Pics here). Also saw the location shoot of another show from ABS-CBN ‘Your Song’ in the clubhouse on the same day.

Then on my 3rd Manila flight, I went to Global City – The Fort to see the model unit of Megaworld 19s  Mckinley Hills I’ve been eyeing that project since December 2007. Now I’m torn between McKinley Hill, The Fort and Century City in Makati. Anyway, I’ll just blog about it some other time when everything is finalized already. My Journey to buying a perfect condo! 4 Passenger Missed Air France 447 Flight

Published June 5, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

"No one lives forever. We often forget that."

The survivors say their relief is overshadowed by the immense sense of loss they feel for those who didn’t make it.

"It feels miraculous and sad at the same time," said Amina Benouargha-Jaffiol, who tried to get on the flight Sunday night, even enlisting a diplomat friend to try to pressure Air France to let her and her husband on.

"Of course, at some level we feel lucky, but we also feel an enormous sadness for all those who perished," she said.

For some it was a simple matter of arriving at Rio’s airport late; for Andrej Aplinc, it was because he got there early.

The 39-year-old Slovenian sailor and father of two was spared because his cab driver was in a hurry to see a soccer match.

With time to spare at the airport, Aplinc, who was supposed to take Flight 447, learned there was no seat on the plane with enough legroom for him to stretch out his bum knee. But since he’d arrived early, he was able to board an earlier 4 p.m. Air France flight, which did have a roomy seat.

"It was such huge luck that I flew with that earlier plane," Aplinc said from his home in Radelj Ob Dravi in northeastern Slovenia.

Gustavo Ciriaco was scheduled to be on that 4 p.m. flight. But he arrived late at the check-in and was told airline agents could not find his seat and the gate was about to close.

The 39-year-old Brazilian choreographer and dancer was on his way to Europe for two weeks of rehearsals for his next ballet, and had a connecting flight to catch in Paris.

Ciriaco pleaded to be let him on the plane, and finally the airline discovered the seating error and relented.

If the reservation mix-up hadn’t been resolved, "I would have tried to take the following flight because I would have arrived in Paris with enough time to catch my connection," Ciriaco said.

The next flight? Air France 447.

"Survivors" like these often need psychological counseling, said Guillaume Denoix de Saint-Marc, whose father was among the 170 people killed in 1989 when Libyan terrorists downed UTA Flight 772 with a suitcase bomb. He now heads an association that helps victims of airline disasters.

"They can have big psychological problems. We meet a lot of people like that," said Denoix de Saint-Marc, who was asked by French authorities to counsel relatives of the victims of Flight 447 at a crisis center at Paris’ airport.

In the case of UTA flight 772, some of the pilots and cabin crew who had flown the French DC-10 jetliner before handing it over to the doomed crew "couldn’t resume their careers," Denoix de Saint-Marc said.

"They lost their flying licenses because of big psychological problems or alcoholism," he said.

Such traumas have a name: "Survivors’ syndrome," seen often in combat and other crisis situations in which those who make it feel as though they fled, deserted their buddies or were cowardly, said psychiatrist Ronan Orio.

But being saved by the ticket counter, traffic or other caprices of life should not be considered traumatic, said Orio, who has worked with victims of hostage situations, terror attacks and airline crashes.

Instead, near-miss situations should be viewed in a positive light, he said.

"People who take a plane and have a second chance win the lotto. They have the right to continue where the others died," he said.

Benouargha-Jaffiol and her husband Claude Jaffiol got a second chance last Sunday.

The couple, who live in Montpellier, France, had pulled strings to try to get on Flight 447, even drafting a family friend, a Dutch diplomat, to phone Air France and try to get them seats on the overcrowded plane.

"My husband demanded that Air France put us on that flight," Benouargha-Jaffiol said. "But nothing doing, the flight was totally full."

She and her husband finally left the airport, returning Monday after the disaster.

PARIS (AP) — A reservation mix-up, an overbooking and a Brazilian cabbie’s passion for soccer are all that saved some would-be passengers on Air France flight 447 from the fate of 228 others who lost their lives in the mid-Atlantic.

Air France AF-447 crash mystery

Published June 2, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

 * This news really gets my attention for 2 reasons: because on my last Manila flight our Boeing 777 has been hit by a lightning fortunately nothing bad happened besides from delays and next week I will have Paris flight hopefully it will be a safe journey…

The presumed crash of Air France flight AF447with 216 passengers and a crew of 12, continues to pose a mystery to aviation writers and analysts world-wide.

Stunned analysts say it would take extremely violent weather to bring down such a large jet, especially one as reliable and modern as the Airbus A330-200 in question.

By industry standards Air France has a relatively young fleet and the aircraft operating flight AF447, registration number F-GZCP, had only entered service in April 2005 and had passed a routine in-hanger inspection in mid-April.

Former Airbus pilot John Wiley told CNN that speculation lightning had brought down the plane was likely to prove unfounded since most modern passenger aircraft were capable of withstanding direct strikes.

Analyst Kieran Daly of online aviation news service Air Transport Intelligence said the lack of communication with the aircraft “does suggest it was something serious and catastrophic.

“The A330 is state-of-the-art, with extremely reliable engines made by General Electric.”

CNN air travel expert Richard Quest says the twin-engine plane, a stalwart of long-haul routes, has an impeccable safety record, with only one fatal incident involving a training flight in 1994.

“It has very good range, and is extremely popular with airlines because of its versatility,” he said.

Brazil and France have scrambled search and rescue aircraft on both sides of the Atlantic, but with a vast area to scour, there is dwindling hope of finding survivors.

The Brazilian Air Force said the flight AF447 was last logged flying at an altitude of 10,600 meters (35,000 feet) before contact was lost.

COACH Bags Are Worth It!

Published May 24, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

I was never a fan of huge bags, I’m more of a collector of cute & stylish little bags even if they are not practical choice because only quite few stuff will fit inside. But lately, I was thinking of having a Coach Travel Tote that’s more of functional than stylish. I want to have a classic style, quite simple, roomy inside with multiple pockets (for a change) plus it will match any color of my outfit and the print of my wallet. This Khaki Coach Travel Tote was definitely a perfect choice. It can carry my umbrella & water bottle while walking around Manhattan NY…

The smooth texture of the leather somewhat makes it look kind of plain, but the contrasting trims with zigzag topstitching adds to its overall design. The pleated detailing on the front looks fastened by the two gold tone safety pins, giving this a rich yet edgy finish. Hybrid silhouette with alternate shoulder strap for convertible satchel to shoulder bag functions. This Coach bag weighs in for a hefty $395 and is available in pink, black, brown and gray color you can choose from.

Coach handbags is established in 1941, over a century after the birth of another luxury brand Hermès, but it takes the similar logo. One is the Bonnie Canvas tote, and the other is Jeweled Canvas large tote, both are combinations of soft cotton twill, contrasting leather trim and graphic print. Inside zip pocket, cell phone and multifunction pockets, ring to clip an accessory or key fob are available for your convenience. While the second has a framed clasp and magnetic snap closure, outside front pockets with turn lock closure, outside back framed pocket, removable leather threaded chain-link strap, but their capacity is definitely not the same. * I saw this at Macy’s at $298.

Choosing the Color: Color is an important factor to consider for a handbag. You may want a handbag that will match your outfit, shoes or accessories. If you want a handbag for everyday wear, identify the colors that you usually wear so that you can coordinate. If you wear a lot of neutrals, you may want a neutral Coach handbag for day wear such as beige, brown, white or grey. For a night out or event, you may want a black handbag. Or if you want to make a statement and bring some change to your fashion, you can go for bold colors. The latest trends have come out with bright and even pastel colors for the spring collection. In fact, looking at the season is a great way to figure out what colors to choose if you want to be trendier.

Identifying the purpose: The first thing that you would have to take into consideration is identifying the purpose that your handbag will fulfill. In other words, what is this handbag for? Do you want a Coach handbag that is more casual for everyday wear or do you want one that is a bit more elegant for a night out? Many career women love Coach handbags for their classy professional style. Do you want something that you can put your entire life into or do you want a handbag that has a specific function? Once you narrow down the purpose of this next handbag, you can move on to other factors.

This Coach Scarf Print bag that I was holding can be worn over the shoulder or as messenger style good to use while shopping or touring the city. The bag lies flat for the most part, making it incredibly safe when traveling and it’s very fashionable.

This Coach Penelope Art Travel is another of the brand’s colorful creations. This gives you another option in purchasing a bag that will fit the season’s multicolor trend, or perhaps another addition to your seasonal collection. This bag obviously made of very chic and feminine hues that make this bag all the more appealing. The metallic trim all throughout this bag adds style and richness to it, making this classier and elegant. Of course, other than just being a stylish bag, this also shows practicality, which would probably make this as your favorite everyday carryall for the season. (Available at Coach Outlets for $698)

Reminiscing Washington D.C

On our Flight going to Washington, I can’t believe there’s only 36 Passengers!!! Only 36 PAX for a 14hrs flight!? Great! and on the way back to Doha only 42 Pax in Economy! Still light load so galley isn’t that tiring after all. Since it’s 14hrs flight we are given 3hrs 15mins. to rest in the BCRC (Bulk Crew Rest Compartment) IIt’s my 1st time to use BCRC All I can say is It’s such a big help to sleep during a long haul flight!

The hotel is located in the middle of a town center, but we arrive passed 9pm so the shops are close already so we just ate late dinner at Bhusara Thai Restaurant Since we only have 25hrs layover I wasn’t able to walk around Reston Town Center =( Anyway, me our CS Bernie & Loubelle went out around 6am to wait for the bus on theway to the metro train station Smithsonian. I’ve been to Washington before (year 1994) but It was long time ago. I’m glad I’ll still be able to go to the U.S like the old times…There are still many places to see but here’s some of the;

Recommended places to visit:

Save What You Earn and Grow What You Save

Published May 19, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

I woke up this morning having the thought of buying another property, I’ve really wanted my savings to be put in a good investment where it will appreciate or earned more but I want it to scattered, If you ‘ve been following my blog, I hope you already know what I mean-Scattered. In my opinion, it’s better to have house & lot, Savings/Checks/ ATM Account, Time deposit, a job & owned business Star Bliss Salon & Spa – The more the merrier! =)

I believed each of those mentioned above are good to have and with different purpose. Because, if you own a house it’s not necessarily mean you have to live there. You may have it rented or sell it when the value increased then inherit it to your children.

It’s also good to have lot property because someday you may use the space to/ build apartments. Yes, That is one of my future plans to have my own building of studio type apartments it doesn’t have to be luxurious or high-rise but just a decent place to rented out.  I know someone who earns 80,000 pesos a month for just 12 doors of small but studious apartment in QC and they have family business as well. Wow! “Money be gets in money”. huh!

Time Deposit is also essential for emergency fund and for business purposes ATM, everybody knows where it’s for. Credit cards, I used it for online purchase and for international shopping so that Idon’t have to buy different currencies again and again.

While, Checking account! Is a must! I have Checking account since I was 12 and I can say it’s really useful for transactions! Plus you don’t need to withdraw and bring big amount. When I was a kid, I used to sign my mom’s checks and play with them! Up to this day, I can still forge her signature and she knew that! Hahaha!

Is a Condominium a Good Investment?

Published May 16, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Browsing some articles because I have this question on my mind if Condominiums are really worth investing for? I 19ve read this article that Mr. Colayco a financial advisor has wrote and I find it useful as it answers my question.

Two Similar Emails on Condominiums:

Question #1: 1csir, thanks for all your financial guides…i just want to ask questions about investing in condo…a lot of condo projects are coming up, their selling point is "good investment". may i ask, is buying or "investing" in this type of project is really an investment? what are promises or good possibilities of having this kind of investment? at the current situation in phils, is it really wise to invest in pre-selling condos? 1d

Question #2: 1cMoving towards financial stability that I learned from your books, I’m thinking of purchasing a condominium unit, because not only it’s much cheaper compared to a regular house and lot (here in Metro Manila), it also allows you to choose one that’s near your work.

However, I have these questions that make me skeptical. Is it a good investment? I mean, will the unit value appreciate over time? Will it be the same with the other unit of the same size or will it differ base on the location. Is it the higher the floor the better, or vice versa?

I know that you have a title and all, but is it also true that it will be demolished after 50 years? If so, what happens to your property?

My impression is like this; the floor you’re stepping is the roof of another people. Just like the wall you have, you’re sharing it with someone else. It’s like the ownership is really not established. What happens in case of fire and the building (God forbid) turns to dust? Do you still own anything? I’ve asked these questions to real estate agents but they can’t give me any straight answers. 1d

REPLY:

If you are buying real estate to establish your home, your parameters should be more focused on what is most convenient for yourself and your family. As a home, it should not be looked at as a financial investment. Rather, it should be considered as a life goal. However, if you just want to invest, please make sure that you have carefully analyzed a real estate investment versus other investment options based on your personal financial plan.

If you definitely want to just invest in real estate, choosing between a condominium and a house and lot would use the same parameters in analyzing its financial viability. Here are some of them.

1. location which includes convenience and attractiveness of neighborhood and security.

2. reputation for quality of development of the builder (this is particularly true for condominiums which are high-rise)

3. rules of the association governing the neighborhood and costs in relation to this association

4. your ability to maintain all amortization and maintenance (association, repair, taxes) payments.

If you intend to rent out your condominium, you need to project your income and costs and assume that there will be times when the unit will be vacant and will need repair. Rental rates normally over around 5% of the market value of the condo unit provided rental income is constant throughout the 12 months in a year. Vacancy rates therefore have a very strong impact on the effective return on the rental property. In considering buying a condo unit for rental purposes, you must assume at least a 20% vacancy rate over the life of the property.

The condominium requires you to live in closer proximity to others and that could be difficult. Atthe same time, it gives you better security because you can leave your unit and it will be more secure (if it is a good condominium, of course). It is all a matter of personal preference. There will always be a group that will prefer an individual house and a group that will prefer a condominium.

Many who have cash to invest like to buy condominiums that they will have their children inherit eventually. In the meantime, they believe that the condominium will bring them some income in the meantime plus even increase in value. However, as children grow older, more and newer condominiums will be built. Your choice may not be your children 19s choice.

As a financial investment, condominiums do not generally perform well over the long term compared to stock mutual funds or even balanced mutual funds and other types of securities. Except for a few notable offerings, the costs of owning condominium units drag down the resale value. Physical depreciation of units, monthly membership and maintenance dues plus real estate taxes imposed on condominium owners can be quite substantial over the economic life of the unit. There is also the issue of capital gains tax and the VAT applicable when the unit is sold. All these taxes have to be paid before you can transfer the ownership registration of the condominium unit to the buyer. If you include all these ownership costs and the reduced rental earnings due to the 20% vacancy rate, the percentage net return per year when you sell the unit (assuming you can find a buyer) can be very disappointing. Simply put, the cost of acquiring a condo unit is not your only cost. The cost of ownership and the cost of selling are real costs to the owner. And these generally make condo units marginal investments.

What Matters Most

The worldwide economy might be recessing for now but no one can stop people from investing their money in the stock market or in other similar fields of

investment. Another way of investing your money is by buying jewelry. One of the reasons why this is so popular is because it’s not a fad, meaning Gold Diamonds are always in. It’s also in our way of life. Wearing jewelry has been a part of some cultures already. Another reason is it’s a low-risk investment because you won’t have to pay a large amount to own a pair of earrings. Should you ever need money, you can always pawn your jewelry to the nearest pawnshop, which is really convenient! =)

But still don’t forget to stay fit and healthy- because, health is wealth. Be conscious and keep track of your condition and do frequent exercises. Keep an eye on what goes into your stomach and make sure to take in only nutritious food such as fruits & vegetables, of course no one wants to get sick!

Lastly, save money. Save as much as you can. It’s one of the most essential Armour we must all keep in. Put this on top of your list and all else will follow. I’m not saying deprive yourself, of course it’s ok to spend and give some reward to yourself after a job well done but too much is not practical. Be smart to look on the cost of the goods you purchase and as much as possible, avoid spending too much on luxuries.

* Do you want to work away from your family or just stay home with your future children while waiting for your income? It’s your choice.

MUNICH, GERMANY (Travel Review)

Published May 4, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

The Flight from Doha to Munich was only 6hrs, the flight departs around 02:00am by the time we arrived in our hotel – Hilton Munich, it’s only 09:00am local time.

I told my colleagues that it’s my 1st time to do the flight because I keep on swapping it for Manila! But since I already swapped my 2 days Milan for a 24hrs Manila, I guess it’s time for me to explore Munich!

The signage was pretty good and I had no trouble finding my way around even though German names (double ss’s and double ff’s) were a bitof a challenge! Because I was with Sandy & Jennifer (my tour guides) they always have Germany Flights (Berlin, Munich & Frankfurt). Through a €9.00 tram. We went to Marienplatz Central Square. The ride was about 20 mins.

Marienplatz was full of nice boutiques, shoe shops and eating places.  The Rathaus-Glockenspiel is also there it plays to visitors from all over the world. There are figures mechanically danced around the clock tower. (usually around 5 past the designated hour).

Also had a very huge snack of grilled veal sausages in Old Town then went to Galeria Supermarket to buy some food while on the hotel and my favorite comfort snack CHOCOLATES!!! As I munched my way around the supermarket I realized it’s no wonder the German’s call Munich Munchin’… I mean "Munchen" Then later on had gluttonous pork dinner on Weisses Brauhaus Restaurant  in front of Old City hall.

Why You Are Not Rich?

Published May 1, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Many people assume they aren’t rich because they don’t earn enough money. If I only earned a little more, I could save and invest better, they say.

The problem with that theory is they were probably making exactly the same argument before their last several raises. Becoming a millionaire has less to do with how much you make, it’s how you treat money in your daily life.
The list of reasons you may not be rich doesn’t end at 10. Caring what your neighbors think, not being patient, having bad habits, not having goals, not being prepared, trying to make a quick buck, relying on others to handle your money, investing in things you don’t understand, being financially afraid and ignoring your finances.

Here are 10 more possible reasons you aren’t rich:

You care what your car lookslike: A car is a means of transportation to get from one place to another, but many people don’t view it that way. Instead, they consider it a reflection of themselves and spend money every two years or so to impress others instead of driving the car for its entire useful life and investing the money saved.

You feel entitlement: If you believe you deserve to live a certain lifestyle, have certain things and spend a certain amount before you have earned to live that way, you will have to borrow money. That large chunk of debt will keep you from building wealth.

You lack diversification: There is a reason one of the oldest pieces of financial advice is to not keep all your eggs in a single basket. Having a diversified investment portfolio makes it much less likely that wealth will suddenly disappear.

You started too late: The magic of compound interest works best over long periods of time. If you find you’re always saying there will be time to save and invest in a couple more years, you’ll wake up one day to find retirement is just around the corner and there is still nothing in your retirement account.

You don’t do what you enjoy: While your job doesn’t necessarily need to be your dream job, you need to enjoy it. If you choose a job you don’t like just for the money, you’ll likely spend all that extra cash trying to relieve the stress of doing work you hate.

You don’t like to learn: You may have assumed that once you graduated from college, there was no need to study or learn. That attitude might be enough to get you your first job or keep you employed, but it will never make you rich. A willingness to learn to improve your career and finances are essential if you want to eventually become wealthy.

You buy things you don’t use: Take a look around your house, in the closets, basement, attic and garage and see if there are a lot of things you haven’t used in the past year. If there are, chances are that all those things you purchased were wasted money that could have been used to increase your net worth.

You don’t understand value: You buy things for any number of reasons besides the value that the purchase brings to you. This is not limited to those who feel the need to buy the most expensive items, but can also apply to those who always purchase the cheapest goods. Rarely are either the best value, and it’s only when you learn to purchase good value that you have money left over to invest for your future

Your house is too big: When you buy a house that is bigger than you can afford or need, you end up spending extra money on longer debt payments, increased taxes, higher upkeep and more things to fill it. Some people will try to argue that the increased value of the house makes it a good investment, but the truth is that unless you are willing to downgrade your living standards, which most people are not, it will never be a liquid asset or money that you can ever use and enjoy.

Qatar Airways Takes Proactive Precautionary Measures over

Published April 27, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways has initiated a number of measures over heightened global health concerns amid the recent outbreak of influenza A (H1N1) swine flu virus in Mexico.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “The health and wellbeing of all our passengers and employees is of paramount importance and Qatar Airways in no way compromises the safety of any individual.

“Passengers should be reassured that modern aircraft have very advanced air filtration systems which ensure a high level of air quality despite the confined environment they are travelling in.”

Qatar Airways has been working closely with local health authorities in Qatar and monitoring developments with international health organisations and governments around the world in order to be able to take the most appropriate measures.

Since April 27th, Qatar Airways has required that all operating flight deck and cabin crew wear masks on flights originating from the United States – namely daily services from New York, Washington DC and Houston.Passengers on Qatar Airways’ flights originating from the US to Doha are being issued with masks upon boarding and advised to wear them inflight. In addition, all Qatar Airways’ customer contact staff in the United States and at Doha International Airport are required to wear masks. If prior to boarding in the US or during transit in Doha, passengers are identified as having flu or fever-like symptoms, they will be referred to a local medical centre to determine their suitability to travel. The airline’s decision has been taken to control the potential transmission of the virus to fellow passengers and crew onboard.

Compounding Money, The Risks and the Benefits

Published April 20, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

You’ve probably heard people talking about how important it is to compound money. But what exactly does that mean? For new investors, the world of financial jargon can seem a little tricky. However, once you get a few basic terms and phrases down you’re realize it’s not as difficult and confusing as you first though.

Compounding money is a simple concept. Say you start with $1,000 to invest. Over the course of the year you see a 10% investment on your return. That translates to $100 for a total return of $1,100. If you’re taking advantage of the benefits of compounding money you’d then reinvest the entire $1,100. In the next year if you made another 10%, this time you’d make a total of $110, bringing your total to $1,210. The idea is that the more you can invest the more you get in return.

If you invest in options that take a year to return then the benefits of compounding money won’t be fully realized. The key is to focus on fast cycle investments. The faster your investment is paying off, the quicker you can reinvest your profits and the sooner you’ll see big money in your bank account. The quickest investments are typically opportunities to buy merchandise at a low price and re-sell it at a much higher price. Be sure you’re purchasing items that are in high demand and can be sold quickly.

If you’re looking to compound money, all you have to do is reinvest your investment returns as soon as you get them. Your money will grow exponentially and before you know it your investment goals will have been realized.

Real Estate Investing for Newbies

Published April 20, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Lesson One: Avoid the hype

Thinking about investing in real estate? If you’ve got the cash or exceptionally good credit now is the right time. Even for beginners. But aside from money there is one other very critical factor to real estate investing. That is education. The more you learn, the less chance you’ll be swindled. The less chance you’ll avoid other mistakes that could cause a huge financial loss.

The internet can be overwhelming for real estate beginners. So my suggestion is that you start out by going to your local library. Go to the reference section and tell the librarian you’re looking for the most current resources for learning how to invest in real estate. The librarian will likely access the library’s online database and point you to a list of magazines, newspapers, and of course books. But be on the look out for DVDs, audio books, and pod casts. Also ask if the library hosts any real estate buying classes, many do.

Another option is attending real estate investment seminars. I’ve gotten offers to attend these in the mail. My advice: choose carefully. Stay away from those that charge. Also go with a firm plan not to buy anything. This way you’ll be able to avoid sales pitches without feeling uncomfortable. By all means be prepared to take notes. If you bring a tape recorder you’ll be able to capture everything from the speaker, as well as questions from the audience.

Know someone in real estate? Invite them to discuss investing tools and tips with you over coffee. Make sure they know that at this time you’re only interested in gathering information, that way you get solid information instead of a sales pitch.

HOUSTON, TEXAS (Travel Review)

Published April 15, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

It was 16hrs direct flight from Doha, but they gave us 5hrs 45mins rest. We arrived in Renaissance Hotel around 17:30 similar to arrival time whenever I have Washington & New York flight, but Houston layover is longer stay! 2nights/3days! Sarap mag inter-state! Knowing Vegas is just around 2hrs away & Miami is just an hour away! (Via plane.)

Since Houston is the newest destination of Qatar Airways, I might as well share these infos…

·       There’s no public transpo available around the area. Puro lang for hire Limo & shuttle bus. (The best parin maging commuter sa Washington/Virginia)

·       There’s a food court located in the ground floor inside the hotel pero exagge ang closing time ha! 2:30pm Close na! Pati Starbucks close narin! Pag weekend Close din!

·       Since mahilig ako mag grocery because my pantry should always be fully stocked coz I don’t cook,  isa nnman itong magastos na layover, dahil kung ang Virginia ay may 24hrs walking distance na Harris Teeter or Target Supermarket while New York has 24hrs din na Duane Reade or CVS Pharmacy/Supermarket or K-mart. Houston naman has Kroger Supermarket located just in front of the hotel!

·       There’s ATM Machine located in the Ground floor.

·       Free wired Internet connection – Same as in New York wherein you’re being asked to sign in with your name & room number but they will remove the charge when you checked out. Wifi is only available in the lobby.

·        Meron dun Much talk about NASA Space Station it will cost you $60 to go there by tour 9-1pm, but I suggest If you already went to National Air & Space Museum in DC. No need to go there kasi pareho lang ang makikita. (View it here)

·       Free USA Today Newspaper! Gusto ko lang I-mention.. Hehe! sa IAD & JFK kc wala…

·       The best parin ang sales tax ng Virginia 4.something lang… Eh dito 8.something parang N.Y but in Fairness, meron silang Tax Refund parang sa Europe! Pero Hello!? As if naman may time ka pa mag refund sa airport… If delayed departure cgro…

·       As I was watching CNN, I noticed there’s QR short Commercial every 5-10mins!

·       Qatar Airways’ huge Promotional Tarpaulins are scattered all over Galleria Mall, pati sa elevator, Ice Skating rink at food court.

  • TX’s Galleria Mall is bigger than Tyson’s Corner in VA. It reminds me of Lakewood Center Mall in LA because of the similar interior and Ala Moana Mall in Hawaii because of the high-end shops.
  • *** Hope this helps.., Add nlng ako ulit ng info next week coz April 15-18, I’ll be in Houston, Texas again.

    Footprints

Published April 14, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand.; one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, You’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.”

The Lord replied, “My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

Do You Have What it Takes To Be A Flight Attendant’s Boyfriend?

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A FLIGHT ATTENDANT’S BOYFRIEND?
    by: ARLENE LEGASPI

You think you have what it takes to be a flight attendant’s boyfriend? Here are FEW things you have to put through. And that’s why they say these jet setters are the Top 3 Most Spoiled Girlfriends in the World. If you’re in a relationship with one: man, we give it up to you…. And If you’re planning to have one:

Be prepared, Be very very… prepared.

    1. Do Not expect her to drive the car. She’s most not likely to have a driving license, she’d say “Babe, I only have a passport.”

    2. Familiarize yourself with SKYPE, YM’s. VoIPs. She worships those amazing discoveries.

    3. DO treat her like a princess before she can treat you like her king. Get ready for statements like “Buy me food, or else Ill break up with you!”

    4. DO NOT be surprised if she wants you to take several shots of vaccines: Hepa B, Hepa A, Meningitis, Yellow Fever etc. etc.

    5. Stay away when her roster comes out. That’s the next worse time to PMS.

    6. BE grateful of her smile. You get it for free. IN the skies, it’s worth 6 digits.

    7. BE READY to see yourself 5 to 10 years from now. She wants a man who knows his direction.

    8. DO give importance to time, preferably Military time. 21:16 is NEVER the same as 21:17

    9. DO NOT wake her up when she’s sleeping, even if you wonder “ she must be hungry after sleeping 18 hours already!” Again, LET her wake up by herself.

    10. DO NOT mess with how she arranges her suitcase. Boots are for Boots sack, shampoos are for toilettries, undies are for undies bag and so on.

    11. DO NOT expect her to remember names of your friends in one sitting.

    12. DO NOT accuse her of bragging when she says she went to Paris for Coffee or just hit the gym in Berlin. She’s just plainly, innocently telling you a story.

    13. Do not get intimidated by the beautiful men around him, chances are she’s already used to/sick of seeing hotness in form. Those men have lost their beauty.

    14. DO NOT call her on the phone when she’s on Standby. DO NOT… ever.

    15. Do NOT question why Half of the dresses in her closet has never been worn, and she still complains, she doesn’t have anymore.

    16. Do Not remove any clothes you think is too much in his suitcase, remember: she has four sets of outfit in her suitcase: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Fall.

    17. She expects you to learn how to read an Aviator watch.

    18. And when she gives you that expensive Aviator watch, Do not Ask her: “ what time is it there in Khartoum?”

    19. The next best gift to a Limited Louis Vuitton bag is a fancy Dual Time Watch.

    20. She carries a First Aid Kit with her and 26 kinds of Supplements: Vit C,E,A,B, anti-Oxidants, Gingko Biloba, Evening Primrose Oil, Horseradish Capsules, etc. etc. even those Pills (damn-those!) you request her to take everyday!

    21. At least buy McDonalds before your holiday flight, she prefers it over aircraft food, and yes even over the caviars in first class cabin.

    22. Understand that discovering a designer dress on the clearance rack can be considered a peak life experience.

    23. Make sure of the inaccuracy of your bathroom scale.

    24. Remind her which country she is in first thing when she wakes up in the morning

    25. During dinner, when she asks you whether you like chicken or beef… Oboohooy! you better think fast!

    26. Begin to be scared when you oversee a long line in Immigration, she has zero tolerance on airport queues.

    27. Work your muscle for a trip together, you’ll be carrying at least four baggages for her. A Gucci make-up bag, a Paul Smith, a World Traveller Trolley, and a Burberry Laptop bag at least for a Domestic Flight.

    28. A bouquet of flowers is THE if not, THE ONLY way to say “I missed you” when you pick her up at the airport.

    29. Prepare yourself for her jetlag, otherwise known as the PFS or the POST Flight Syndrome. You should be awake when she is and asleep when she is . You don’t want to see a whole 72 hours of tantrums.

    30. And lastly, it might seem like she thinks she is overqualified for love. But DO remember that in reality, she feels like she is just an ordinary girl standing in front of a boy, asking him…

    For a foot rub… after a damn…long flight. ☺

    4 Days OFF in MANILA

Published April 10, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Once again I experienced the usual dilemma in every Manila flight – It’s either fully booked or no seats available, but I have my back up ticket with me so I went to Bahrain and catch Gulf Air flight to Manila.

Arrived Manila the next day around 11am, I went home to surprise my family but instead of surprising them I was the one who was surprised because nobody’s home. I called my mom then she told me they are all in Tagaytay. From Fairview to Tagaytay (North to South) Jero & I were able to go there in less than 3hrs because there’s no traffic.

Finally, I was able to meet "Lucky" our new 2 ½ months Shith zu that they just bought in Tiendesitas recently. Cute and Cuddly puppy. Then we visited our lot in La Excelsa Subdivision. It seems like my mom is planning to construct another house there because she always wants to have a rest house. This is the exact phrase I told her. "Huh!? Mama one at a time! You just bought a house & haven’t completed the furnishings yet! Hay nko mag pa parlor na lang tayo at kumain ng Buko Pie, mas masaya yun kesa magpatayo ng bahay!"

    Where to Invest Money

Published March 31, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Choosing where to invest money is not an easy task for any investor. There are, however, a few basic principles that can be applied to ensure the maximum Return On Investment, or ROI. Using these principles as a guide will help build a pathway to financial independence.

Diversification is an indispensable risk-management practice. By investing in a variety of different financial products, one investment falling through will not ruin an entire portfolio. The old adage says not to put all of one’s eggs in a single basket. Without adequate diversification, a portfolio is at greater risk. An example a diverse portfolio is one that is invested in stocks, mutual funds, bonds and commodities.

Liquidity is another key strategy. Choose investments that can be liquidated with a minimum hassle. A savvy investor doesn’t want to turn down an ideal opportunity because all of their assets are tied up in other, not as lucrative, ventures. Furthermore, liquidity allows an investor quickly to sell off any investments that are in decline and negate any negative impact on a whole portfolio.

Lastly, consider the Speed Of Return, or SOR, on an investment. One way to build success in the marketplace is to choose investments that pay dividends quickly, then re-invest capital, profit, or both. The sooner a return on an investment is made, the sooner that money can be turned around into a larger investment that has the potential to yield an even larger result.

Follow these principles and you’ll be a savvy investor who knows exactly where to invest money effectively.

    Sleep Deprived March Roster

Published March 29, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Finally the month will soon be over… I don’t like my roster this month… Too much turnarounds all minimum rest – departing evening – arriving morning – departing evening again & again… and for the 1st time after more than a year I don’t have any U.S flight! When I was in Economy minimum of 3-4 Washington or New York flight each month, but as Premium class crew no more!? Waaaah! I earned more at the Aft Cabin! hehehe! Joke.

Then, I supposed to go on a 7days Beijing Flight. I was ready. All set. My transport pick up arrived but when I was signing in for the flight in Qatar Airways technical bldg. I was like “Hmmm, how come it’s different flight number?” OMG! They just change my flight without any notice at all… That evening I flew to Manchester, UK. I don’t mind doing the flight since I haven’t been there because I keep swapping that flight for MNL but how can I go shopping?!  My suitcase is filled with gym attire, Jackets & boots. The Hotel in Manchester is Midland. The location is perfect for shopping there’s H&M, Zara, Mark & Spencer,Topshop and “Primark” is just 5mins walking distance yehey!

I really wanted to buy lots of stuff but my suitcase is packed for 7 days stay in Beijing. (No much space) But still I managed to bought lots of stuff like 2 Jackets, Lingeries, Tops, lots of warming tights, (good for winter) & some pasalubong. Spent about 70 pounds.

Back in Doha, I have Roster changes again!!! They gave me Delhi – Bahrain – Delhi back to back turn around flights!!! Waaah!!! Best word to described it – Damn Tiring!!!

I also had Tripoli – Cassablanca (morocco), I don’t have picture there because I didn’t go out, I just went to Spa for a relaxing massage & tried the much talk about “Hammam” service. (Their term for body scrub). Unfortunately, it wasn’t relaxing at all. My skin has a lot of nail scratch afterwards & the way they massage is not gentle. Ouch! Nothing beats Thai Massage or Swedish Massage in The Spa, Fitness First or City Lifestyle QC.

Narita accident Strands 1,600 pax in Manila

Published March 24, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Four Boeing 747-400 flights going out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport was cancelled after a FedEx MD-11 cargo aircraft crash at 6:49 am (7:49 Manila time) yesterday in Tokyo’s Narita Airport and consequently causing the closure of one of its runway and resulting to cancellation of 38 outgoing flights.

The FedEx cargo plane smashed into the runway and burst into a ball of fire while attempting to land killing the pilot Kevin Kyle Mosley, 54, and copilot Anthony Stephen Pino, 49. Aviation Accident Investigators believed that wind shear, an aviation term for sudden gust of strong wind, may have been a factor in the accident.

The airlines that were unable to leave Manila was Japan Airlines flight JL746 scheduled to depart at 9:10, while JL741 which is supposed to arrive in the afternoon failed to depart from the same airport for a return trip. Northwest flight NW002 which was scheduled to leave for Detroit via Narita at 8 am with about 400 passengers, was also cancelled.

Meanwhile, a Boeing 747 Philippine Airlines flight PR431 from Tokyo failed to arrive at 1:30 pm. Its return flight to Narita, PR432, marooned another 400 passengers at the Centennial Terminal 2.

The accident however strands thousands of passengers, half of it bound for the United States, which was left unattended at Terminals 1 and 2. Its been a practice of airlines that in the case of unforeseen event, such as the FedEx plane crash, that the carrier is not responsible for hotel accommodations of stranded passengers or to take care of their food billings, except when the reason for suspension of flight was when the airplane they were supposed to take experience technical problems.

    My Golden Valentine

Published March 5, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

It’s better late than never post it at all, just want to explain why all of a sudden we were wearing huge Gold jewelries last Valentines day at Chili’s Restaurant. On Feb 14’ 2009, we had our family picture taken on a studio (as mentioned in earlier blog). It was the exact number of jewelries she was once wore on our portrait 16yrs ago! She’s just so happy that after all these years “walang nabawas, nasanla or nabenta” sa collections niya nadadagdagan pa.

Then while we were in the restaurant my sisters and I are having fun fitting all those while were joking around saying:

Star: “ah ito akin ‘to – ako  ang paborito!”

Alma: “Hindi sakin yan, ako panganay!”

Kristine: “Pagsawaan nyo na hawakan lahat yan dahil sakin lahat ng mana, ako BUNSO!  Hahahaha!!!

Christian: Bahala nga kayo dyan, may bahay naman ako BEH!

    Biruan lang naman…hehehe!

    A Family Portrait

Published March 5, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Family portraits are often regarded with less importance and it is probably done once, maybe twice in a lifetime but it is important because among the first things we see when visiting a family’s home is a portrait.

We have a portrait back in 1993 taken professionally by Mr. Allen Villalon. That picture still looks new as if it was only taken a year ago not 16yrs ago. Since my mom doesn’t want to move any things, furniture or appliances from the house to another she said everything should be brand new. We’ve all decided that it’s about time to have a new family portrait! Mr. Allen Villalon couldn’t remember our faces anymore because who would recognize faces in negatives! plus 16 yrs had already passed!!!

A Fairy Tale: Dreams do come true…

Published February 21, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

Ever imagine yourself standing inside your dream house while you are actually stuck on the traffic? Then you know the power of visualization or better known as daydreaming! This mind-body tool let us preview a better life, which gives us the focus to help make it happen. I know you’re all wondering why I am writing this way. Positive thinking matters.

My mom like everyone else always dream of a house, she successfully owned a house but still dreams of a bigger house with swimming pool. She used to say “maybe not now but sooner or later, I know that dream house will come – in God’s will.” After years of hard work & investments here’s the result!

OUR NEW HOME in an exclusive subdivision in the heart of Quezon City! with Swimming pool, 2 Jacuzzi, 5 Bedrooms with maid’s room, 3 spacious balcony, Attic on 3rd floor, grand staircase & unobstructed view of the neighborhood! Worth $230 US Dollar paid in cash and yet she doesn’t want to sell our other house for a very sentimental reason and because it’s where it all started. In short, it’s a lucky house.

Looking at those advertisements about Homes for Sale inspires me a lot that someday I will be owning one of the fabulous house. Every one dream as I do. Who doesn’t want a house on their own? Of course no one wants to stick in just renting a house or company provided apartments. But in the process of living we will start at a low level. It’s not quiet that easy. It might not happen overnight, but if you stay focused and have a strong faith to God, what you want should eventually come your way in his will.

I’ll post the interior of the house soon after they finish some renovations, repainting, when it already has furnishings inside and the pool has water already! Also watch out for the Grand House Blessings! Inshaalah!

    Surviving – A problem without a solution

Published January 17, 2009 by Mrs. Universe Philippines 2020 - Star Villanueva

As people we are used to problems and trying to solve them. The loss and bereavement process is difficult because the problem you are trying to solve has no answer. That is what confuses us and causes depression. We are used to finding solutions and we need to understand that mourning and grief is one emotion that cannot be “mended”. The solution that you want – your loved one by the side of you- will not come back.

The solution to beat this depression, is to understand that it is about survival skills…surviving the crisis and then learning to live and love again. You need to change the question that you are searching for an answer to, from – why did this happen? to How do I learn to cope with this pain? That is a problem that we can find an answer for, it is a problem that through years of experience we have learned to cope with……it is a problem with a solution.
